Crutchfield agrees to plea deal

According to this article with WBIR, Sen. Ward Crutchfield has agreed to a plea deal.  He will plead to bribery, so that extortion charges will be dropped.  There is more on it here in the Knoxville News Sentinel.

Sentencing to come later.  There is a possible 5 years in federal prison and $250,000 in fines.  For some reason, I seriously doubt he will get all of that.  Call me a skeptic.  But, I wouldn’t mind being wrong on that analysis.

In the meantime, Crutchfield will hold continue as a state senator and step down “in due time”, as his defense attorney put it.  I would have thought “due time” would have been, when he was charged with abusing the position with which he was entrusted but, at least, it should be when he has agreed to a plea deal to save additional prison time.  Is he going to wait until he has to start serving his federal prison time?
